I'm home! Last Sunday night my brother and sister-in-law formed a welcome home team at the airport and brought Paul&me home. Now the big job of unpacking, washing extremely smelly socks, getting in touch with everyone and sorting out 1500 photo's has begun.
The last 3 days in Barcelona were extremely hot, I returned with a nice café con leche coloured tan, poor Paul red as a lobster. Friday while I waited for Paul to arrive I visited the National Museum of Catalonyan Art, where my art-loving heart rejoiced the sight of so many Modern Art, a nice change after all those weeks of only visiting churches.
In the evening Paul and I took a stroll along the famous (and very crowded, very touristic) Barcelona beach and I convinced Paul to try some of the delicacies of Spanish cuisine I've grown fond of: pulpo, flans, tarte de Santiago, mini squids and café con leche. Pulpo is octopus, but not the way you probably know it, as fried calamari, but boiled. It looks extremely weird, purple and with the tentacles including those sucky thingies still attached, but it's yummmmmmm. And Paul agreed with that!
Saturday we walked through the Park Güell, but decided to skip the Sagrada Familia since there was a 3 or 4 hours waiting line in the burning heat. We met up with Aleix, one of my Camino buddies from last year when I walked the first part of the Camino Frances, who gave us a nice tour through the Ramblas. In the evening, after dusk, we took a touristic city bustour, and could awe at the city at night beautifully illuminated, including a light-and-water show at a huge fountain.
Sunday we just had a bit of time left to dip our toes in the mediterenean sea (and get more sunburned) before we had to catch our airplane.
And now I'm home, and this long journey already seems a part of the past. So many memories to contemplate... I'll try to upload here some photo's of my mural painting in Trabadelo, and my new Camino tattoo. Wat heerlijk, dat jullie samen zulke mooie dagen hebben beleefd in Barcelona. Alle goeds verder deze zomer. Ergens in september zien we elkaar waarschijnlijk weer en hoor ik graag over al je nieuwe belevenissen op de camino. liefs en groetjes, ook aan Paul. Marijke
