Day 1 - Geldrop, Netherlands > Lourdes, France

I'm off! The first stage of my journey consisted of getting to Rotterdam for the high-speed train to Paris. This proved quite an ordeal: It's a 75-minute journey that took me and Paul over 3 hours because of delays and missed connections. But we got to Rotterdam just in time, and I changed trains in Paris quite easily for the final part of today's trip: The high-speed train to Lourdes.
As if by a miracle I got seated next to a man who was about to embark on the same journey as me, after spending a day in Paris with his grandson. He should be crossing the Pyrenees just when I'm working at the Roncesvalles refugio, so maybe I'll see him again. On the train he kept talking about the Camino with me, annoying his grandson in the process :)
I took some disposable literature with me (i.e. books I don't mind leaving behind). I'd finished my first book before I got to Paris and gave it to another Dutch traveller.
Made my scheduled stop in Lourdes in the evening, where I was happy to find out my hotel reservations had come through. It's a nice hotel with friendly service, but I had to remind them of their cheaper breakfast option, as they tried to set me up with their deluxe version first ;)
Tomorrow I'll go and have a look around town and of course visit the pilgrimage site I have heard so much about.
