(Sunday)

You'll never believe me, but it was freezing last night! I'm approximately 900 meters above sea level, and it shows. Started walking with a sweater on this morning! And this perpetual wind here gave me a cold. Brr.

This morning I attended mass in a monastery run by nuns. Very impressive! Every pilgrim was asked to come forward and introduce themselves over a microphone.

The Camino passed through just fields and plains today. No trees whatsoever. But it wasn't as bad as expected, it was only 20-25 degrees (C) and there was a cold breeze. And it may sound boring, but these fields are really beautiful to look at.

This afternoon I sat down at the side of the road, near a former monastery inn, where an Italian volunteer noticed me. I showed him my blisters and band-aid, he went away and came back with a bowl of water and a pack of salt. So there I was, having a foothbath, in the middle of nowhere, amidst endless fields, at the amusement of many pilgrims walking by. But it sure helped!

Half an hour later, the inn opened. It's very small, with just eight beds, and just one room containg a kitchen, an eating area and a church. Run by Italians. I decided to stay here, as one of the blisters I got yesterday is really hurting. At some point the Italian who'd brought me the salt water, offered to puncture my blisters and put a thread through them to prevent them from closing up again. It probably sounds gross and painful, but it was painless and just looked funny :)

A girl with a guitar just walked in and started playing and singing songs. Nice!

Just before dinner, they started an interesting ordinance: Washing of the Feet. Like Jesus did to his apostles. They do it to pigrims. Nice surprise :) Like yesterday, there's no electricity here, so we enjoyed a candlelight dinner. At least five languages at the table.

The Italian volunteers here are worried the local Spanish youth may come over and give them a hard time tonight, because of their victory in the football championships. We were asked to close the front door properly when we've gone out to take a leak. The toilet is a few yards out, through the black of night (unlit). This could get interesting :)

    Marco:

Nice! They told me that hostel was great... but unfortunately last year I did not manage to stay there!

Wanderer

Hoi!
