Walking went great today, as you can tell by the distance I covered. I walked alone the first 23km, during the final four I was joined by an italian guy who proved to be a nice conversationalist.
This town was named after the Knights Templar who used to reside here to protect the Camino and its pilgrims. I’m at the edge of town though, so I haven’t seen any remains from that period.
This refugio is huge, they have a restaurant and a (dry) pool.
An average pilgrim’s diet may not be what you’d expect back home. Basically I live off of yoghurts, fruit & vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, bananas, cherries, peaches, oranges and apples). I eat TUC biscuits to take in salt. Can’t take any bread with me for that dries out in no time. Slices of cake are good: Long shelf life, and I don’t need any toppings or sugar. And I keep granola bars handy for emergencies. Water is better than coke or fruit juices, obviously.
And then my phone gave up on itself, so I don't know if I'll be able to keep this up.

Désirée Bruggema:
Are you vegan or veggie? I'm a veggie myself, so I wonder: why aren't you eating some cheese and/or nuts and seeds to strengthen your muscles?
Just curious..... Or is it part of the pilgrimage to eat like when fasting (almost)?
Any idea of your weight(loss)? -
